We have our own sawmill, and we kiln dry or air dry our wood on site. Longhouse Trading purchased two new 25/mfbm charge Brunner Hildebrand kilns and a new 1-6 head Weinig Moulder in 2008 to expand our production capacity. Longhouse Trading Company also has a 15,000 square foot pre-staining plant with state of the art pre-staining machinery to ensure quality control in our application of stains and preservative applications as well as a 13 head Cemco boring machine. We manufacture sidings, fir flooring, posts and beams, board and batten, decking, poles and custom cuts such as Hydro Douglas Fir Crossarms.
The raw material for these products starts out at a six acre site near Qualicum Beach B.C., where logs are bucked, sorted and stored. On this site is the core of our manufacturing operation, a Heartwood model 310 bandsaw, with supporting edgers and chop saws. The saw features computerized set works, with a thin-kerf double-cut blade.
Longhouse Trading Company cuts everything to order so manufacturing is well planned before a log even comes near a saw blade. All orders go to the mill operations manager Tom Yates, who manages how and when the wood will be cut guaranteeing absolute quality customer satisfaction.
Once the lumber has been cut and graded it is either sold as rough green lumber or is goes to be kiln dried, profiled, pre-stained or even pre-drilled. Because Longhouse has the ability to do all of this on site we can control the quality of the finished product.
Another of our company's strengths is that we deal directly with building contractors or homeowners eliminating the middle-man. Longhouse Trading has a fleet of four five-ton trucks, all equipped with Hiab cranes to transport product.
