Building Trends for Fall 2021

This year has seen major changes take place in almost all aspects of our lives, and the home building industry is no exception. Along with rapid changes in the price of home building materials, especially processed lumber, we’ve also seen several new trends in the ways that homes are being designed and built in recent months.

Here are some of the most significant trends we’ve noticed leading into the fall season of 2021:

Open Concept Homes

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic keeping many of us at home more than before, many homeowners are increasingly focused on improving the comfort and style of their homes. While the trend of open concept homes is far from new, we’re noticing that more homeowners than ever are building or redesigning homes to be much more open and free-flowing in terms of design. With evolving restrictions regarding restaurants and other entertainment, homeowners are increasingly entertaining family and friends at home.

With this trend, various “living areas” like kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms are becoming increasingly integrated together. The trend of open concept homes won’t be going anyway anytime soon. The experts at Longhouse can provide you with the materials and insight to help you build the right home for you and your family.

Home Workspaces

Another design trend that has seen significant growth over the past year are dedicated workspaces in the home. Having a dedicated in the workspace in the home has become something of a necessity for the many Canadians who are still working remotely. Those working from home need a quiet place in the home where they can work with minimal distractions and interruptions. With many Canadians working from home for the foreseeable future, it’s rare for any home or apartment listing to not feature a dedicated workspace inside. At Longhouse we have the knowledge and materials to help you incorporate a dedicated workspace into your new or existing home.

Outdoor Spaces

This year we’ve also increasingly noticed the emphasis that many homeowners here on Vancouver Island are placing on the outdoor spaces of their home. With many us of stuck at home more than usual, being able to spend quality time outdoors close to home has become a real necessity. We’ve been noticing that many homeowners are building new decks, patios as well as landscaping their gardens in order to make time spent at home all the more enjoyable. At Longhouse we specialize in providing the materials and expertise for homeowners building a new deck. With our line of Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir products sourced sustainably from right here in B.C., we’re able to provide our customers with what they need to build their dream home.
